LSU Football: Tigers hold on to key assistant coach
By Zach Ragan
A lot of folks have left the LSU football program in the days since the Tigers beat Clemson to win the national championship.
LSU football lost a couple of key assistants earlier this week (Joe Brady and Dave Aranda), but they managed to hold on to one on Friday that Nebraska was hoping to swipe.
Tigers wide receivers coach Mickey Joseph reportedly turned down an offer from the Cornhuskers to become Nebraska’s passing game coordinator/associate head coach.
The gig with Nebraska would’ve been a promotion for Joseph — at least when it comes to the title.
Holding on to to Joseph, who played college football at Nebraska, is a big deal for LSU.
Joseph has only been on the Tigers’ staff since 2017, but he has spent the majority of his coaching career in the state of Louisiana.
The New Orleans native, who coached receivers last year in conjunction with Joe Brady, provides LSU with a strong in-state recruiting presence on the staff.
LSU pretty much recruits itself in Louisiana, but it helps to have a coach on the staff like Joseph who has spent over 20 years building relationships with local high school coaches.
The fact that Joseph turned down a chance to return to his alma mater, for a promotion, shows just how much faith he has in Ed Orgeron and LSU. And it shows how much love he has for Louisiana.
LSU’s staff will certainly have a different look next season, but there will be plenty of familiar faces as well.
