LSU football visited the White House on Friday after winning the 2019 College Football Playoff championship agains the Clemson Tigers earlier in the week.

LSU football had quite a day on Friday.

Just four days after winning the national championship in New Orleans, the Tigers made the trip to Washington D.C. to visit with the president at the White House.

The trip managed to provide a very non-political viral moment.

It was a nice light hearted moment for the Tigers.

In fact, the whole day seemed free of controversy, which has become rare during White House trips for sports teams in recent years.

Growing up, I always remember various teams visiting the White House after winning championships. I never really thought much about who was president, how the visits went or anything like that. It was just something that was part of sports.

But that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. Visits to the White House have become a polarizing topic. Some folks, mostly people not even involved with the trip in the first place, turn the visits (and who goes or doesn’t go) into a political statement for whatever reason.

Fortunately for LSU, there wasn’t anything political about Friday’s trip.

And I have a feeling it had a lot to do with quarterback Joe Burrow, who had the perfect statement about the trip.

It’s easy to forget at times that Burrow is only 23. The poise he shows in tough situations is amazing. It doesn’t matter if it’s navigating a pass rush or perfectly breaking down a trip to the White House, he just seems to get it.

Burrow’s words on Friday were simple, but they were on point. It doesn’t matter who is in office. A trip to the White House, an important part of the history of America, is special for any team.

Good on Joe Burrow for recognizing that.
