LSU football’s Grant Delpit is expected to be one of the top players selected in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Grant Delpit, a dynamic defensive back who helped LSU football achieve a 15-0 season in 2019, is expected to be a first round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

In fact, according to the latest mock draft from The Athletic’s Dane Brugler, Delpit will be a top 20 pick.

Brugler has the Dallas Cowboys selecting Delpit with the No. 17 overall selection.

Delpit is the first safety off the board in Brugler’s mock draft.

It’s certainly not a surprise to see Delpit, who is skipping his final season of eligibility at LSU to enter the draft, going early in mock drafts.

Delpit won the Jim Thorpe Award (annually given to the nation’s top defensive back) in 2019 after finishing the season with 65 tackles, two sacks and two interceptions.

Oddly enough, Delpit actually had better numbers as a sophomore (74 tackles, five sacks and five interceptions). To be honest, he deserved to win the award in 2018 more than he did in 2019.

(According to The Athletic, Thorpe Award reps told LSU that Delpit deserved the award in 2018.)

If not for an up-and-down 2019 season, it’s possible that Delpit would be a top ten pick in the upcoming draft. I think he’s still a top 10 talent. Which means he’ll be a steal for the Cowboys, who desperately need a safety, at No. 17.

That is, of course, if he falls that far.

The potential to be great in the NFL is there for Delpit. It’s possible that another team ahead of the Cowboys recognizes that greatness in him.
