LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron reportedly received a contract extension on Friday.

According to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman, LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him in Baton Rouge for years to come.

Feldman reported on Friday that Coach O has agreed to a six year extension worth more than $42 million.

It’s certainly a deserved pay day for a head coach who just guided LSU to possibly the greatest college football season ever.

LSU did right by Coach O, even though it wasn’t a move they necessarily had to make.

Orgeron just signed a two year extension last March. The deal made him the 24th highest paid coach in the nation (Coach O’s new deal should put him among the top five highest paid coaches in college football).

It’s not like Orgeron was going to consider leaving LSU if he didn’t receive a new deal. Coach O is as LSU as it gets. In fact, he didn’t even ask about the salary when he was offered the full time head coaching gig in late 2016.

They’ll have to run Orgeron out of LSU. There’s no way he’s going to leave Baton Rouge to take more money elsewhere.

But the Tigers still did the right thing by making Orgeron one of the highest paid coaches in the country. Coach O deserves it.

It says a lot about LSU that they weren’t forced into giving Orgeron a raise. They did it because it was the right thing to do.
