LSU football has one of the nation’s toughest schedules in 2020
By Zach Ragan
LSU football will attempt next season to become the first program to repeat as national champions since Alabama in 2011 and 2012.
After winning the national championship in 2019, there can only be one goal for LSU football in 2020.
Win it again.
Of course, that’s easier said than done.
Especially with the mass exodus of players that LSU suffered after beating Clemson earlier this month.
And there’s the issue of one of the toughest schedules in the nation, too.
According to 247Sports, the Tigers have the No. 7 hardest schedule in the country in 2020.
They note that LSU has five games against potential top 25 teams.
The good news for LSU is that they don’t play a true road game until October 10, when they travel to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators. That’s important with a new quarterback. It will give Myles Brennan (or whoever starts for LSU) plenty of time to get settled in as the starter.
LSU also plays Auburn and Texas A&M on the road (they play Texas and Alabama at home).
Another bit of good news for LSU is that their SEC East crossover opponent next season is South Carolina. The Tigers shouldn’t have any problems in Baton Rouge with a Gamecocks team that struggled mightily in 2019.
I actually think the schedule sets up nicely for LSU. If the Tigers can get past Texas in early September, they should cruise until their matchup against Florida. If they beat the Gators and the Longhorns, they should be undefeated when they host Alabama on November 7.
It’s certainly going to be a challenge for LSU next season. But it’s not out of the realm of possibilities that they could get through the regular season unscathed again.
