LSU football will be looking to replace quarterback Joe Burrow in 2020.

Myles Brennan is expected to be LSU football’s starting quarterback in 2020.

But that doesn’t mean the job should just be handed to him.

Competition is good, and it brings out the best in players (or at least it should).

Brennan has certainly put in his time waiting behind Joe Burrow the past couple of years, but it might not be a bad idea for LSU to bring in a quarterback who can push Brennan during spring/summer.

And there just happens to be another quarterback from Ohio available (hey, that Burrow guy from Ohio seemed to work out pretty well).

Indiana quarterback Peyton Ramsey, an Ohio native, reportedly entered the transfer portal on Monday.

Ramsey, a former three-star recruit from Cincinnati, played for three seasons at Indiana. He passed for over 6,500 yards and 42 touchdowns in 31 career games. He also rushed for 832 yards and 14 touchdowns.

The 6-foot-2 quarterback would provide LSU with plenty of starting experience. And even if he didn’t win the starting job, he’d still give the Tigers a reliable backup option behind Brennan.

For what it’s worth, I think Brennan should be the guy next year. But I also think LSU would be wise to protect themselves just in case Brennan doesn’t work out the way the Tigers are hoping he does. Remember, Brennan has never been “the guy” before. We don’t know how he will perform as LSU’s starting quarterback until he’s actually in that position. There’s no guarantee he’ll be the Tigers’ best answer in 2020.

Next. LSU is getting a dynamic RB. dark

Of course, there’s no guarantee that Ramsey would be either. But it’s always better to have options.
