Boomer Esiason compares Joe Burrow to elite NFL QB
By Zach Ragan
LSU football’s Joe Burrow is expected to be the top selection by the Cincinnati Bengals in the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft.
LSU football quarterback Joe Burrow was an incredible collegiate player.
And most folks think he’ll continue to find success in the NFL.
But how much success? How good will Burrow actually be?
Well, former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Boomer Esiason thinks he could be great, and he even sees some Patrick Mahomes in Burrow.
Esiason told Bengals.com this week that he sees “greatness” in Burrow. He also believes Burrow is an under-appreciated athlete.
"“He (Burrow) reminds me, in that regard, I don’t know if when Patrick Mahomes came out that people knew the kind of athlete he was. Great baseball player. Great basketball player. He kind of found quarterback because it was awesome and great and it was challenging. I think that’s what this kid is. We all do."
Mahomes is arguably the best quarterback in the NFL. He’s certainly one of the biggest stars in the game.
If Burrow gets anywhere close to that level, the Bengals will be incredibly happy.
I think it’s obvious that Burrow has something special about him. Even among elite athletes, he’s special. His drive and confidence, plus his will to succeed, combined with his natural abilities, gives him the opportunity to be a tremendous player in the NFL.
The Bengals should feel very fortunate they’re in a position to select a transcendent player like Burrow. There’s no reason to even invite anyone else to town for a pre-draft visit. It’s Burrow. Everyone knows it.
Esiason might see some Mahomes in Burrow, but the former LSU signal caller won’t be the next Patrick Mahomes.
He’s going to be the first Joe Burrow.
And that’s exactly how it should be.
