LSU football will put a bow on their 2020 recruiting class next week, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t also focusing on their 2021 recruiting class.

According to a report from Geaux247, LSU football received a visit from five-star recruit Camar Wheaton, the top 2021 running back in the nation, on Saturday.

Wheaton, 6-foot/190 lbs, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 2 player in the state of Texas and the No. 6 overall player in the nation.

The Texas native has rushed for over 3,000 yards and 40 touchdowns during his first three years at Lakeview Centennial High School (he’s also caught 20 passes for 216 yards).

Wheaton, who also holds offers from Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma and Ohio State, among others, is an elite running back who has the potential to be a game changer in the SEC.

According to an evaluation from 247Sports recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks, Wheaton possesses “explosive straight-line acceleration”. Brooks also noted that Wheaton is “not afraid of contact” and has “encouraging patience” when waiting on running alleys to develop. 247Sports suggested that Wheaton could eventually develop into an early round NFL draft pick.

Oklahoma is expected to be a major factor for Wheaton, but LSU obviously has plenty of time to develop a strong relationship with the dynamic running back.

The Tigers currently have five players committed to their 2021 recruiting class, including five-star linebacker Raesjon Davis and four-star wide receiver Deion Smith.

Wheaton would certainly be a nice addition and should be one of LSU’s top recruiting targets during the 2021 cycle.
