LSU football is strongly pursuing one of the top 2020 defensive players in the nation.

LSU football would love to see 2020 five-star defensive end Jordan Burch become a Tiger on National Signing Day.

But it’s starting to feel unlikely that Burch will end up at LSU.

The South Carolina native committed to the Gamecocks in December, but didn’t sign during the early signing period. That left the door open for the Tigers.

And while LSU has given Burch plenty to think about, it seems like his official visit to South Carolina this weekend likely sealed it for the Gamecocks.

It’s well known that Burch’s mother prefers South Carolina, but like any mom, I’m sure she just wants her son to be happy.

And it appears that Burch’s heart is in Columbia — even though LSU has made things complicated for him.

Burch felt the love from South Carolina fans on Saturday during the Gamecocks’ basketball game against Missouri.

According to 247Sports, Burch’s visit “went well” and there are “no signs of wavering”.

At this point, I’d be surprised if Burch ended up flipping to LSU.

The Tigers did all they could do, this is just how it goes in recruiting sometimes.

In certain instances, distance and familiarity can be too much to overcome.

Of course, even if Burch signs with South Carolina, it doesn’t mean he couldn’t end up in Baton Rouge one day.

Will Muschamp probably won’t be the head coach at South Carolina for much longer (he’s squarely on the hot seat right now). If Muschamp gets fired, the transfer portal could be an option for Burch (it’s certainly popular with a lot of college football players these days).
