LSU Football: Ed Orgeron points out the only downside to winning national championship
By Zach Ragan
LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron led the Tigers to a 15-0 season in 2019, but he’s still chasing perfection.
LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron was obviously thrilled the Tigers went 15-0 and won a national championship this past season.
But that doesn’t mean Coach O is satisfied.
Orgeron is constantly looking forward, working to improve LSU’s football team.
That’s why it shouldn’t be a surprise that Coach O pointed out the “downside” of winning the national championship in January.
Orgeron told reporters on National Signing Day that playing in the College Football Playoff championship put the Tigers “behind a week or so in recruiting” (this year’s national championship game was played a week later than last year’s).
Coach O added that the subsequent trip to the White House, which he described as fantastic, also put LSU behind a bit.
Orgeron and his staff hold themselves to a different standard than fans. They’re obviously focused on landing elite to recruits that will help LSU continue their winning ways. And they feel that any day spent not recruiting is day that puts them behind.
But I doubt winning the national championship will hurt the Tigers when it comes to recruiting. In fact, it should help them (elite recruits will want to play for the champions).
Orgeron even alluded to this during his signing day press conference, saying “There’s a big interest (among 2021 recruits). I feel that this is going to be an excellent year in the state of Louisiana.”
Coach O is a football coach through and through. I think LSU could win five national championships in a row and he still wouldn’t be satisfied.
That’s how you know the Tigers have a special man leading the program.
