The XFL will debut on Saturday. There’s nothing like football in February, right?

The XFL will kick off on Saturday, giving football fans everywhere a taste of their favorite sport after the finish of the NFL season.

With the reboot of the XFL, it means there’s an opportunity for fans to pick a fresh team to root for.

Obviously there will be some geographical connections for a lot of fans, but with only eight teams, geography might not come into play too much.

So who should LSU football fans cheer for?

My first thought was the Houston Roughnecks. Geographically, it’s the closest team to Baton Rouge. And former Tigers offensive lineman Toby Weathersby is on the roster

But after looking over the rosters, I think it’s clear that LSU fans should be cheering for the DC Defenders.

The Defenders have the most former LSU players on their roster of any team in the XFL.

Wide receiver Malachi Dupre, running back Nick Brossette and defensive end Sam Montgomery have each found a home with the Defenders.

Plus ,there’s another Baton Rouge connection to the Defenders. Quarterbacks coach Ted White has never worked at LSU (or played there), but he’s a Baton Rouge native.

It’s not much, but it’s the strongest connection that LSU has to a XFL team.

The only downside to cheering for the Defenders might be the uniforms that look a lot like Oklahoma’s uniforms.

Nothing against the Sooners, those uniforms are just boring.

Either way, I’m a Defenders guy as of tomorrow. But I reserve the right to switch that up if they’re absolutely terrible (or if the league quickly folds like I expect it will).
