LSU Football: 4-star in-state recruit plans to commit during the summer
By Zach Ragan
LSU football is hoping to land a commitment from Kaine Williams, a four-star 2021 safety from Marrero, LA.
Kaine Williams has LSU football near the top of his list.
But the Tigers aren’t alone in their pursuit of the four-star safety from Marrero, LA.
Williams recently released a top six that includes LSU, along with Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Oklahoma and Texas A&M.
The 6-foot-2 safety, who is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 5 player in the state of Louisiana and the No. 3 safety in the nation, recently told Rivals that he plans to commit either at the end of May or the beginning of August.
Williams, while noting that Florida State and Texas are becoming factors for him, mentioned that LSU’s distance from his hometown (45 minutes) is a positive.
The Tigers will certainly be hoping they can land the dynamic athlete.
247Sports midlands recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks says Williams is a “big framed safety” who is “instinctive in coverage”. Brooks also noted that Williams is a threat to score on every interception, adding that he’s a “high-major prospect with long-term potential to reach top half of the NFL Draft”.
Williams’ ballhawking nature would be a tremendous fit in new LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini’s aggressive, attacking defense.
It sounds like Williams is going to take his time making a decision this spring. He has visits coming up at Alabama, LSU, Florida and Florida State. After those visits, he’ll likely be close to making a decision, based on his commitment timeline.
The Tigers currently have four players committed to their 2021 recruiting class.
