LSU football can’t afford to miss on 2021 four-star running back LJ Johnson.

There are plenty of recruits in the 2021 class that LSU football needs to land, but four-star running back LJ Johnson is a player they absolutely MUST sign.

Johnson, 5-foot-10/204 lbs from Cypress, TX, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 4 running back in the nation and the No. 54 overall player in the nation.

So why does LSU have to land this kid?

Well, outside of the fact that he’s one of the best 2021 players in the country, he’s also an LSU legacy.

Johnson’s father, Jonathan Johnson, attended LSU.

When Johnson, who runs the 40 yard dash in 4.42 seconds, was offered by LSU, he told Rivals “I’m from Louisiana. I was born there so I used to camp there a lot, so the offer meant a lot to me.”

Johnson added “My family played there, so this meant a lot for me and my family. It was big for them.”

The Louisiana native had an incredible 2019 season at Cy-Fair, rushing for 1,957 yards and 37 touchdowns.

247Sports recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks describes Johnson as a “high-floor player who could star at Power 5 level and become an early-round NFL Draft prospect”.

Just because Johnson is an LSU legacy, doesn’t mean it will be easy for the Tigers to land the talented running back.

Oklahoma and Texas are very much a factor for Johnson. Georgia and Ohio State could also be a factor.

LSU, however, has a unique connection to Johnson that could sway the dynamic running back to Baton Rouge.
