LSU football has to prove itself as a program all over again in 2020.

The national media’s narrative surrounding LSU football next season is already taking form.

Heading into the 2020 season, there’s going to be a LOT of talk about how much talent the Tigers lost from their 2019 national championship team.

Can LSU overcome the loss of Joe Burrow? Will Joe Brady’s departure for the NFL hurt the Tigers’ offense? Was LSU’s 2019 season a fluke?

Get ready for those questions. They’re coming.

It seems silly that a team that won the national championship in 2019 will have to prove itself again in 2020.

But that’s what I expect to happen next season.

It’s not a big deal, though. The national media’s perception doesn’t mean much. If anything, Ed Orgeron will use it as motivation for his team.

The one perception that does matter, however, is that of recruits.

And recruits don’t think the 2019 season was a fluke.

2021 four-star offensive tackle Terrence Ferguson, 6-foot-4/300 lbs from Fort Valley, GA, recently talked to Rivals about his top schools. Alabama, Georgia and LSU are at the top of the list, for now, for Ferguson.

When it comes to the Tigers, Ferguson told Rivals “LSU had a great season and I know there has been some change, but I believe in Coach O”.

The nation’s No. 7 offensive tackle added “I like what he does as a head coach”.

Hearing a recruit say “I believe in Coach O” should tell folks all they need to know about how LSU’s head coach is perceived by the people that matter.

It doesn’t matter how much the national media disrespects LSU this season. As long as the players, and recruits who might one day play for the Tigers, believe in Coach O and his staff, then great things will continue to happen in Baton Rouge.

Next. LSU recruiting target makes big leap in new rankings. dark

I can’t wait to see the reaction when the Tigers exceed expectations in 2020.
