One of LSU football’s top 2021 recruiting targets recently named his top five schools.

Five-star defensive lineman Maason Smith, one of LSU football’s top 2021 recruiting targets, recently told 247Sports that he talks with five schools on a daily basis.

According to Smith, those five schools are the ones he’s focused on at the moment.

Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Texas A&M are the schools currently in Smith’s top five.

While Smith included the Aggies among his top schools, he also took a subtle, perhaps unintended, shot at Texas A&M.

Smith, who is rated as the No. 1 player in the state of Louisiana and the No. 2 defensive tackle in the nation, told 247Sports “They’re (Texas A&M) not always the best team, but they always take care of their guys”.

They’re not always the best. Ouch.

I mean, I get that Smith is trying to compliment the Aggies’ program. But that comment has to sting Texas A&M fans. It’s almost like they’re in his top five because he feels bad for them.

Then again, maybe that’s not the case.

Either way, LSU should be the favorites to land Smith. He’s a Louisiana native and he’s an elite recruit. Those players almost always end up in Baton Rouge.

Smith pointed out to 247Sports that he’s been building relationships with LSU since he was in eighth grade. He also noted that LSU is “basically home”.

Next. Joe Burrow nailed his Ed Orgeron impression. dark

There’s obviously a long way to go in Smith’s recruitment. But I’d be surprised if he didn’t end up at LSU.

And I’d be even more shocked if he chose Texas A&M.
