LSU Football: 2020 signee can be difference in winning championships
By Zach Ragan
Four-star defensive tackle Jacobian Guillory is one of the more underrated players in LSU football’s 2020 recruiting class.
When you take a look at LSU football’s 2020 recruiting class, names like Arik Gilbert, Elias Ricks and Kayshon Boutte immediately jump out.
But those are far from the only 2020 signees that could have a major impact for the Tigers over the next several years.
One of the more unheralded recruits that LSU signed in the latest recruiting cycle is four-star defensive tackle Jacobian Guillory, a 6-foot-2/330 lb signee from Alexandria, LA.
Guillory is rated by 247Sports as the No. 3 player in the state of Louisiana and the No. 9 defensive tackle in the nation.
247Sports recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks describes Guillory as a “big-bodied, powerful interior defensive line prospect with size to step on the field right now at the high-major level”.
Barton Simmons, the director of scouting for 247Sports, took his praise for the Louisiana native a step further, recently telling The Advocate that Guillory is “the type of guy that’s the difference between playing for championships and winning championships”.
Interior defensive linemen typically don’t receive the same praise as other elite defenders. It’s usually the edge rushers, cornerbacks and middle linebackers that get all the attention.
Players like Guillory are often the forgotten names in the trenches. But in the trenches is where games are won and lost.
If a team is going to win a national championship, they have to own the line of scrimmage.
Guillory, who has the ability to collapse the pocket and wreak havoc with his unique size and strength, has the potential to be a terror in Bo Pelini’s new look 4-3 defense.
LSU’s defense is going to improve a lot in the next few years. And players like Guillory are a big reason why.
