LSU Football: 2021 4-star QB grew up cheering for the Tigers
By Zach Ragan
LSU football is one of the teams to beat for a 2021 four-star quarterback.
LSU football is targeting several 2021 quarterbacks.
One of the quarterbacks the Tigers are pursuing is Ty Thompson, a four-star recruit from Gilbert, AZ.
Thomspon, 6-foot-4/200 lbs, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 3 player in the state of Arizona and the No. 8 pro-style quarterback in the nation.
The Arizona native is described by 247Sports recruiting analyst Blair Angulo as a player with “elite arm strength” and “smooth mechanics and effortless throwing motion”.
Angulo also noted that Thompson projects as a day three NFL Draft selection who is a “candidate to start early in college career”.
LSU likely has a couple of 2021 quarterbacks higher on their board (Caleb Williams and Garrett Nussmeier), but Thompson is still a player the Tigers are interested in landing.
Thompson recently told 247Sports that he plans to announce his commitment this summer. He also noted that despite being from Arizona, he grew up cheering for LSU.
The talented quarterback said he feels like he’d be a good fit in the Tigers’ offense, saying “I feel like they’re a huge program and I feel I can fit into their offense the way Joe Brady put it in. Obviously he’s not there anymore but it’s still the same offense.”
I’d honestly be a bit surprised if Thompson ended up at LSU. The Tigers will likely land either Williams or Nussmeier, and I don’t think Thompson is going to head to Baton Rogue to sit on the bench just because he grew up cheering for LSU.
But if the Tigers somehow miss on Williams and Nussmeier, Thompson will probably be at the top of their list.
