LSU football recently promoted former Tigers running back Kevin Faulk to their on-field coaching staff.

There will be a familiar face on the sidelines coaching for LSU football this fall.

Former Tigers running back Kevin Faulk, who previously served as LSU’s director of player development, was recently promoted by Ed Orgeron to an on-field coaching role.

Faulk will replace Tommie Robinson, who is leaving Baton Rouge for the same role with Texas A&M.

While Robinson was a key recruiter for LSU, Orgeron obviously feels Faulk can help the program even more in that area. Robinson’s contract was set to expire March 1, which clearly means the Tigers were looking to move in another direction. It’s not that Robinson was doing a bad job, it’s just that Faulk is considered an upgrade for LSU.

On Tuesday, Faulk made a brief comment on his new job.

The legendary running back, who was a three time member of the All-SEC first team, told The Advertiser “this is what I’ve always wanted to do”.

Recruits already love the hire by LSU.

Specifically four-star running back LJ Johnson, an LSU legacy.

Johnson had already been talking with Faulk before the promotion.

After Faulk landed his new gig, Johnson told 247Sports “I like Kevin Faulk”. Johnson added “I think definitely for coach Faulk, he just brings energy…..he has passion for the school and I think he wants to recruit guys who have the same passion for it too.”

There’s no doubt that Faulk, who rushed for over 4,500 yards and scored 53 total touchdowns during his collegiate career in Baton Rouge, can sell LSU unlike almost anyone else.
