LSU basketball head coach Will Wade can be a complete savage.

LSU basketball had a rough February, losing five times in a seven game stretch.

So it’s understandable if head coach Will Wade is on edge heading into the final week of the regular season.

Even a 64-50 win over Texas A&M on Saturday couldn’t prevent Wade from being a total savage when talking about his own team this week.

Wade made a joke at the expense of his freshmen. And it was definitely delivered with some snark.

Here it is, via WAFB’s Jacques Doucet.

Ouch. That one probably hurt.

Though to be fair, freshman Trendon Watford scored 50 points over his first four games as a Tiger. That’s obviously not as impressive as what Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf did in just his third game at LSU, but it’s still pretty good for a freshman.

Wade is probably more concerned about LSU’s NCAA Tournament outlook at the moment.

The Tigers are currently listed as “should be in” by ESPN. LSU sits at 20-9 with games remanning against Arkansas and Georgia. The worst the Tigers can finish is 20-12 (which I don’t see happening). It’s hard for me to see a 20-12 team being left out of the NCAA Tournament.

While LSU isn’t necessarily a lock to get into the tournament, they should feel pretty confident about their chances to go dancing in March.

But if they somehow miss the tournament, I can’t imagine what version of Wade we’ll get. His “savage” comment about his freshmen might seem mild if LSU is NIT bound.
