LSU Football: Proof that Ed Orgeron is the best recruiter in the nation
By Zach Ragan
LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron can out recruit anyone.
LSU football’s Ed Orgeron has always had a great reputation when it comes to recruiting.
Orgeron is known as a fierce recruiter that knows how to close with elite recruits in the final moments leading up to signing day.
Former Tigers edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson told a story at the combine last week that gives some insight into how Orgeron operates as a recruiter.
Chaisson told Pro Football Talk that he was on his way to Texas when Orgeron made a late push to land him.
Coach O wanted to visit with Chaisson, who was a four-star recruit from Houston, one last time before signing day. Chaisson, however, told Orgeron there was no time.
That didn’t matter to Orgeron. He showed up at Chaisson’s house at 4 AM, made his pitch on the way to the airport and the rest is history.
Chaisson helped LSU win a national championship and will likely be a top 15 selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, so I’d say he made the right decision.
Not just any coach can pull off what Orgeron pulled off with Chaisson. For a lot of coaches, showing up at a recruit’s house at 4 AM wouldn’t be a good luck.
But Coach O just has a different aura around him. Orgeron’s unorthodox recruiting methods are what make him the nation’s best recruiting head coach.
Of course, it also helps that Coach O has proved to be one of the country’s best head coaches, too.
Orgeron delivered on every promise he made to Chaisson. That’s something not every head coach can say about the promises they make during the recruiting process.
