Former LSU football quarterback Joe Burrow has plenty of confidence, but he’s also incredibly self aware.

Former LSU football quarterback Joe Burrow has plenty of reasons to walk around with all the swagger in the world.

Burrow is going to be the top selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, just months after leading LSU to a 15-0 season and a win in the national championship game against Clemson, while also tossing for 5,671 yards and 60 touchdowns.

There’s not a more in-demand draft prospect that Burrow. And rightfully so.

But despite all of Burrow’s recent success, and despite all the swagger he displays on a weekly basis, the talented quarterback hasn’t let any of it go to his head.

Burrow is still a grounded 23 year old that knows exactly who he is as a quarterback.

Last week at the NFL draft combine, Burrow told reporters that his best trait is his preparation, while noting that he’s aware his physical abilities are “limited” compared to some other quarterbacks.

"“I prepare better than anybody else. My physical traits are limited compared to some of the guys here. Everyone can see it. I have to be smarter. I have to prepare better and I have to know what’s happening before it happens so I can play fast"

It’s true that Burrow doesn’t have the best arm in the draft. He’s not a gunslinger. But it’s not like he has a weak arm, either.

Burrow was quite effective on passes over 20 yards in 2019.

Burrow’s incredible self awareness is part of what makes him such a special player. He has the ability to self scout and figure out where he needs to improve.

There’s no concern with Burrow ever being too stubborn to coach. As the son of a coach, Burrow understands the coaching process. And he understands that no player will ever achieve “perfection”.

But while Burrow might not ever be a “perfect” quarterback, he’s a perfect choice to be the top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

I’m sure the Cincinnati Bengals agree.
