LSU football could be adding another linebacker to the roster this summer.

LSU football lost several linebackers from their 2019 squad to the 2020 NFL Draft, so there’s no doubt they could use a bit more manpower at the position.

That’s why Jabril Cox, who is currently in the transfer portal, could be an intriguing option for the Tigers.

Cox, 6-foot-3/233 lbs, was an absolute force at North Dakota State. In three seasons with the Bison, Cox accumulated 258 tackles, 14 sacks and six interceptions. He’s a future NFL player who wants to spend his final season of eligibility at a division one program.

And LSU is one of the schools he’s considering.

Cox is set to visit the Tigers next week.

There’s actually an interesting connection between Cox and LSU.

New LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini coached against Cox in each of the previous three seasons (while Pelini was the head coach at Youngstown State). Which means Pelini has first hand knowledge of how talented Cox is as a defender.

Alabama and Tennessee are also expected to be in the mix for Cox.

Ultimately, it depends on what kind of opportunity Cox is looking for. If he wants an easy path to playing time, then Tennessee might be his best bet. But if Cox wants a chance to compete for a national championship, then it has to be Alabama or LSU.

And I’d imagine the team that just won a national championship by going 15-0 would have the edge.

But this is college football, so anything is possible. Either way, it appears that LSU is ready to pursue the talented linebacker.
