LSU football is among the top five schools for one of the nation’s top 2021 wide receivers.

2021 four-star wide receiver Mario Williams tweeted his top five schools on Saturday afternoon and LSU football made the cut.

Williams, 5-foot-10/165 lbs from Plant City, FL, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 6 player in the state of Florida and the No. 4 wide receiver in the nation.

The dynamic wide receiver included LSU in his top 5, along with Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Oklahoma.

Williams, who is also a standout baseball player, is described by 247Sports director of scouting Barton Simmons as a player who “shows good lateral quickness and has the tools to beat press coverage at the line of scrimmage”.

Simmons added that Williams, despite being only 5-foot-10, is “capable of making plays in contested situations down the field”.

Rivals national recruiting director Mike Farrell recently noted that he believes Williams is on the cusp of becoming a five-star wide receiver, saying “He can separate, is great at running routes and setting defensive backs up and has dynamic speed”. Farrell also said that Williams reminds him of former Texas A&M wide receiver Christian Kirk.

LSU will have an opportunity to make a big impression on Williams next season. The Florida native is scheduled to take an official visit to Gainesville on October 10 for Florida’s matchup against the Tigers.

If LSU is able to win on the road against the Gators, it would certainly help their recruitment of Williams.
