Why LSU coaches should be commended in light of coronavirus outbreak
By Zach Ragan
LSU coaches have exhibited some tremendous behavior in the midst of the coronavirus outbreak sweeping the nation.
In the midst of the coronavirus outbreak that has pressed the pause button on the nation, nearly everyone, including LSU coaches, is doing their best to help the current crisis.
There are numerous ways to help. And most folks are putting the needs of others first.
But there’s one specific thing that LSU coaches are doing that I think is commendable and worth noting.
Actually, it’s something they’re not doing.
Several LSU coaches, including basketball coach Will Wade, are going to miss out on contracted postseason bonuses because of the novel coronavirus. In Wade’s case, he stands to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Tigers athletic director Scott Woodward noted on Monday, during a conference call, that LSU coaches “haven’t even brought it up”.
Woodward added “Right now, the financial impact is not our concern. We’re focused entirely on the health and safety of our community and our student-athletes right now, and in due time, we’ll get there.”
When all of this passes, when things get back to normal, LSU can look back at the situation and know that they were on the right side of history.
This is a tough situation for everyone. Sports brings us together. And right now, sports aren’t there to do that. But the folks at LSU involved in sports are making sure that their focus is purely on helping folks.
At the end of the day, that’s all that matters. And right now it’s clear that LSU’s administrators and coaches feel the same way.
