LSU football legacy is one of the top recruits in 2022 recruiting class

LSU football might have the inside track to landing one of the nation’s top 2022 recruits.
LSU football should be in a good position to land one of the nation’s top 2022 recruits.
Four-star quarterback Walker Howard, 6-foot-1/179 lbs from Lafayette, LA, is one of the most sought after players in the 2022 recruiting class.
And he’s an LSU legacy.
Howard, who is rated by 247Sports as the No. 4 player in the state of Louisiana and the No. 2 pro-style quarterback in the nation, is the son of former Tigers quarterback Jamie Howard, who played at LSU from 1992-95.
Oddly enough, Howard has never started a high school game. But that will change this upcoming season. Howard played behind Caleb Holstein (who signed with Louisiana Tech) for two seasons. It’ll be Howard’s turn to shine in 2020.
As for Howard’s recruitment?
Well, LSU won’t automatically win Howard’s signature just because he’s an LSU legacy. It will help, but they’ll still have to impress the dynamic quarterback. Howard was a fan of passing game coordinator Joe Brady and analyst Jorge Munoz. But with both of those coaches gone (Brady to the Carolina Panthers and Munoz to Baylor), it will be up to new passing game coordinator Scott Linehan and others to build a strong relationship with Howard.
Visits this fall will be key. And so will LSU’s look on offense. If the Tigers’ offense stays mostly the same as it did last year (and it should, with Steve Ensminger still calling plays), then it will go a long way in winning over Howard.
Howard, who has offers from LSU, Alabama, Baylor and several others, plans to take his recruitment slow. So I wouldn’t expect a commitment anytime soon.
The Tigers currently have three commits to their 2022 recruiting class.
