LSU football is one of the hottest teams in the country on the recruiting trail.

LSU football finished the 2020 recruiting cycle with the nation’s No. 4 recruiting class.

They might finish with an even higher ranked class in 2021.

The Tigers currently have five players committed to their 2021 recruiting class, including their most recent commit, three-star safety Dakota Mitchell.

Mitchell, the No. 404 rated player in the nation in 247Sports’ composite rankings, committed to LSU last Thursday. The Florida native told 247Sports “the energy and atmosphere in Baton Rouge is the perfect fit for me”.

LSU landing a three-star recruit isn’t big news. This is a program that is routinely landing four-star and five-star players.

Ed Orgeron and his staff probably didn’t have to work that hard to convince Mitchell to commit to the Tigers.

But that’s now how LSU operates. They recruit every player hard. It doesn’t matter how the player is rated.

And that’s exactly why the Tigers are red hot in recruiting.

After committed to LSU, Mitchell told 247Sports that Coach O was the only head coach talking to him throughout the week.

“That was the only head coach I would get on the phone with throughout the week and that meant a lot to me”, said Mitchell.

The talented defensive back added “his energy towards me just gave me good vibes so I loved that about him”.

Orgeron’s tireless approach toward recruiting — regardless of who he is recruiting — is what makes LSU a threat to land any recruit they pursue.

Coach O is an elite recruiter for a reason. The way he recruited Mitchell, a three-star safety that might be a diamond in the rough, is just another example of what makes Orgeron one of the best head coaches in the nation.
