LSU football is among the top schools for elite 2021 quarterback Caleb Williams.

2021 five-star quarterback Caleb Williams released his top five schools on Monday and LSU football made the cut.

Clemson, Maryland, Penn State and Oklahoma are also in Williams’ top five.

The Washington D.C. native is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 1 dual threat quarterback in the nation and the No. 5 overall player in the nation.

Rivals recruiting analyst Adam Friedman believes Oklahoma is the team to beat (for now) for Williams.

Friedman has LSU, however, right behind the Sooners in the race for Williams. Friedman noted that LSU previously led for Williams, but the departure of passing game coordinator Joe Brady is “a hurdle LSU has not gotten over just yet”.

Williams is scheduled to officially visit LSU when recruiting is allowed to resume, a visit that Rivals says will be “huge”.

When Williams commits, there likely won’t be any wavering by him. He’s been very deliberate in the recruiting process and he won’t make a decision until he’s absolutely certain of where he wants to play.

If the Tigers are able to land Williams, they’ll be getting a dynamic quarterback that can be a game changer. 247Sports national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn compares Williams to Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.

According to Dohn, Williams has a “strong, accurate arm” with a “tight release”. Dohn noted that Williams can throw the ball 70 yards.

If LSU isn’t able to land Williams, they’ll likely pivot to four-star quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who has an existing relationship with new Tigers passing game coordinator Scott Linehan.
