Duke

I really wanted to get an ACC team on this list, but I had some trouble trying to figure out which one.

LSU has played North Carolina and Virginia Tech — two obvious choices — in recent years. So those two didn’t work. Florida State is already scheduled. Virginia and Wake Forest don’t offer much intrigue. Neither does Louisville or Syracuse.

So I settled on Duke.

I know, it probably doesn’t make a lot of sense.

But there’s a reason this matchup would interest me.

That’s because of the shared history of Duke head coach David Cutcliffe and Ed Orgeron. The two have never crossed paths, but they have some things in common. Both were head coaches at Ole Miss. And both were fired at Ole Miss. Both have also spent in Knoxville on the Tennessee Vols’ coaching staff.

And both have now found success in their second permanent head coaching role (Cutcliffe on a smaller scale at Duke).

This is a matchup that LSU would obviously win. But I think it would be fun to see two coaches with a ton of college football history in the SEC meet on the gridiron.
