LSU football in top 5 for 4-star WR from New Orleans
By Zach Ragan
LSU football is among the top schools for an elite wide receiver from New Orleans.
2021 four-star wide receiver Destyn Pazon revealed his top five schools on Sunday evening and LSU football, unsurprisingly, made the cut.
Pazon, 6-foot/170 lbs from New Orleans, LA (Edna Karr), also included Alabama, Florida, Florida State and Oklahoma in his top five.
The Louisiana native is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 22 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 131 overall player in the nation.
Pazon told Rivals earlier this month that he’d like to make a decision by June or July, but it’s unclear if the recruiting shutdown (due to the coronavirus outbreak) will push his decision back.
The dynamic wide receiver has a close relationship with Florida State running backs coach David Johnson (who is also from New Orleans). It’s not easy for opposing programs to steal elite talent from New Orleans, but the Seminoles are certainly making a strong push for Pazon.
LSU was scheduled to get a visit from Pazon in March, but those plans had to be canceled. The visit would’ve been big for the Tigers, since Pazon wants to see LSU’s offense in action without Joe Brady in the mix.
247Sports director of scouting Barton Simmons describes Pazon as a player with the “ability to beat press coverage with quick feet and effectively stacks defensive backs”. Simmons also says Pazon is “effective downfield and winning in contested situations”, while noting that he has “route-running versatility”.
LSU currently has five players committed to their 2021 recruiting class.
