The Miami Dolphins are still hoping to make a deal with the Cincinnati Bengals so they can draft LSU quarterback Joe Burrow.

In recent days, it’s become even more clear that the Cincinnati Bengals really, really like Joe Burrow.

I mean, we already knew the Bengals were in love with Burrow. But Cincinnati owner Mike Brown’s decision to sit in on Burrow’s combine interview — and allow Burrow to ask him questions — makes it crystal clear that Cincinnati wants the former LSU quarterback to be the leader of their offense for years to come.

With the Bengals liking Burrow that much, it would be silly for any team to even attempt to make a deal for the top pick. If a team was able to work a deal with Cincinnati, they’d almost certainly be overpaying.

None of that has deterred the Miami Dolphins.

According to the Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero, the Dolphins are still planning to make a run at Burrow.

Salguero said in his column on Tuesday that Miami “will make an attempt at that opportunity at some point”.

The Dolphins have three first round picks, including the No. 5 overall selection. It’s possible they have enough draft capital to make an offer that will put Cincinnati in a position where they can’t say no.

But this would be an unwise move by the Dolphins.

Look, I like Burrow a lot. And I think he’s the real deal. I love his attitude toward football. I love his leadership ability and the way he’s able to rally a team. I think he’s going to be a star in the NFL for years to come. In my mind, he’s a can’t miss prospect.

But can’t miss prospects sometimes miss.

Even the best talent evaluators in the world miss on guys from time to time. There’s no guarantee that Burrow will live up to the hype. Why would Miami want to risk essentially the future of their franchise for a player that’s never played a down in the NFL?

The Dolphins would be smart to stick with the picks they have and hope Tua Tagovailoa falls to them. Or maybe take Justin Herbert.

Cincinnati, on the other hand, should seriously consider any mega offer the Dolphins send their way.

Everyone has a price and the Bengals might be able to land plethora of draft picks that could help them more than Burrow.

If Miami is crazy enough to offer that much, Cincinnati should take advantage.
