LSU football offers 2023 QB, but he’s not the QB at top of Tigers’ list
By Zach Ragan
LSU football recently extended an offer to 2023 quarterback Dylan Lonergan.
LSU football became the first SEC program to offer 2023 quarterback Dylan Lonergan this week.
Lonergan, 6-foot-1/195 lbs from Snellville, GA (Brookwood), hasn’t been rated yet by the major recruiting services, but he’s expected to be one of the top 2023 quarterbacks in the nation.
The Georgia native told Rivals that he’s been following the Tigers for most of his life, saying ” I’ve always liked them and the players that have come through that system….it would be amazing to play in that kind of program”.
While it’s clear that LSU likes what they see in Lonergan, he’s not the 2023 quarterback that’s likely at the top of the Tigers’ want list.
That would be New Orleans native Arch Manning.
Manning, the grandson of former Ole Miss and New Orleans Saints quarterback Archie Manning and the son of former Ole Miss wide receiver Cooper Manning, is poised to be the most hyped college football recruit in a long time.
The Manning family is purposefully shielding Arch from being recruited at a high level this early — that’s why he hasn’t received any official offers just yet.
But it’s clear from camps that the young quarterback is already a prodigy. Rivals recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman had high praise for Manning last summer, saying “The next Manning flashes incredible potential rarely seen in a prospect this young”.
No one has any idea how Manning’s recruitment will look in the coming years. But if I had to bet, I’d go with LSU, Ole Miss and Tennessee (where Peyton Manning, Arch’s uncle, went to school) being the top three suitors for Manning.
Ole Miss is probably considered the favorite, but I wouldn’t be surprised if LSU ends up landing Manning. It’s obvious that the Manning family doesn’t push Ole Miss. Archie Manning was deliberate in letting Peyton Manning make his own decision, which is why Peyton ended up at Tennessee. I think we’ll see a similar approach with Arch.
That sets up well for LSU. Choosing the Tigers would allow Arch to create his own path, while also allowing him to stay close to home.
Of course, LSU can’t bank on landing Arch. That’s why they have to continue to pursue other 2023 quarterbacks, like Dylan Lonergan.
