LSU football making in-state cornerback a priority
By Zach Ragan
LSU football is hoping to land a 2022 defensive back from New Orleans.
2022 four-star defensive back Jyaire Brown is one of the top players in the state of Louisiana, so it’s no surprise that he recently received an offer from LSU football.
Brown, 6-foot/165 lbs from New Orleans, LA (Warren Easton), is rated by 247Sports as the No. 6 player in the state of Louisiana and the No. 17 cornerback in the nation.
The New Orleans native received his offer from LSU on Wednesday after a conversation with Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron. Brown told Rivals that he was “emotional” after receiving the offer, saying “I got emotional and just thanked the entire coaching staff”.
Brown also holds offers from Georgia, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Utah, among several others.
A recent Rivals recruiting evaluation of Brown described the dynamic defensive back as a player with the “ability to be physical, to cover well and break on balls and collect turnovers”. They also noted that Brown has “quickly established himself as one of the top defensive backs in Louisiana’s 2022 crop”.
This is the type of player that LSU doesn’t let get away. In fact, I’m a little surprised the Tigers didn’t offer Brown sooner (though I don’t think offering after Mississippi State, Georgia and Tennessee will hurt LSU’s chances with Brown).
Coach O loves recruiting in-state players and making them a priority. “Staying home” is one of Orgeron’s main recruiting pitches. I expect that Coach O, along with Tigers cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond, will be heavily recruiting Brown over the next year.
LSU currently has three players committed to their 2022 recruiting class, including Khamauri Rogers. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Brown quickly jump on board with the Tigers in the coming months.
