Recruiting analyst says LSU football leads for 4-star cornerback
By Zach Ragan
LSU football is the team to beat for a four-star cornerback according to one recruiting analyst.
Rivals national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman says LSU football is the team to beat for 2021 four-star cornerback Sage Ryan.
Ryan, 5-foot-11/193 lbs from Lafayette, LA (Lafayette Christian Academy), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 2 player in the state of Louisiana and the No. 39 overall 2021 recruit in the nation.
According to Spiegelman, Ryan has a close relationship with Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron and cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond. Spiegelman also noted that Ryan is cousins with LSU running backs coach Kevin Faulk.
Given Ryan’s connections to LSU, and his close proximity to Baton Rouge, it’s easy to see why Spiegelman believes the Tigers are the program to beat for the dynamic four-star recruit.
Alabama and Clemson are the other programs that Spiegelman has in the mix to land Ryan.
247Sports’ midlands region recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks describes Ryan as a player that’s a “versatile, athletic football player with functional size that could translate to cornerback, safety, nickel, receiver, or even running back”. Brooks also says that Ryan “flashes impressive burst and acceleration” and has “terrific top-end speed”.
Ryan says he’s planning to commit sometime in January, likely at the All-American Bowl.
Considering Ryan’s family connections to LSU, plus the way Coach O recruits in-state players, it’s hard to imagine the highly touted defensive back not ending up in Baton Rouge.
Then again, recruiting can be wild at times. And we’ve seen plenty of recruits make decisions that no one ever sees coming.
That’s why it’s important that LSU doesn’t just assume they’re going to land Ryan — they have to recruit him just like they would any other player.
Though I doubt anyone has to worry about that with Coach O — he’s always all-in when it comes to recruiting……and, well, everything else.
