LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron recently revealed the moment he saw Joe Burrow in a different light.

LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron has always saw something special in quarterback Joe Burrow.

That’s the reason he brought Burrow to Baton Rouge in 2018 as a graduate transfer.

But there was a moment this past season when Coach O started seeing Burrow in a different light.

And that moment came in LSU’s 37-10 blowout win against the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship game.

Burrow was a magician against the Bulldogs in Atlanta that evening, completing 28 of 38 passes for 349 yards and four touchdowns.

Orgeron said it was during that game that he went from being a head coach to a fan, as he was dazzled by Burrow’s performance on one of the biggest stages in college football.

Coach O was particularly impressed with Burrow’s scramble drill in the third quarter that resulted in a long gain to Tigers wide receiver Justin Jefferson, calling it a “Heisman moment”.

Burrow would win the Heisman Trophy a week later by receiving 841 first place votes out of a possible 891 votes.

(I’m not sure what the 50 people who didn’t give Burrow a first place vote were watching in 2019, but to each their own.)

Orgeron’s words about Burrow tell you just how good the young quarterback really was in 2019. Head coaches — especially elite head coaches like Orgeron — don’t get out of their “head coach mindset” in the midst of a game. But Burrow was so good against Georgia, that Coach O couldn’t help but marvel at what he was seeing on the field.

Burrow’s talent is rare. And what he accomplished in 2019 was so insane that we may never see another season as prolific as Burrow’s redshirt senior season at LSU.

There’s a reason Burrow is viewed by draft pundits as a player who can potentially save an NFL franchise — it’s because he’s a once in a lifetime talent.
