LSU football’s odds to win the SEC West are an insult to the Tigers

LSU football won’t be the favorite to win the SEC West in 2020.

LSU football isn’t the favorite to win the SEC West in 2020 according to the latest odds from BetOnline.ag.

Instead, Alabama is the favorite.

That’s not all that surprising. And I don’t have an issue with the Crimson Tide being the favorites to win the division in 2020, mostly because of all the talent that LSU lost from their 2019 national championship winning squad.

It’s the team with the second best odds to win the SEC West that I find surprising.

BetOnline.ag gives Texas A&M the second best odds to win the division. LSU has the third best odds.

Ok, what are we doing here?

Sure, LSU lost their starting quarterback, a stud wide receiver and running back, plus a litany of important defensive players, but the Tigers are still loaded with talent (LSU’s been recruiting at a high level the last couple of years).

And they’re led by a coach who just CRUISED to a national championship with a 15-0 record. I’m pretty sure Ed Orgeron knows how to get the most out of a team.

The Athletic’s Brody Miller pointed out that Texas A&M likely has the second best odds to win the SEC West because the Aggies have the highest returning production value (via ESPN) in the SEC.

That makes some sense, except for the fact that Alabama, just like LSU, is way down ESPN’s returning production list. So there’s not a lot of consistency behind these most recent odds.

There’s also the fact that Jimbo Fisher hasn’t proved a thing in the SEC yet. He won nine games at Texas A&M in his first season. Fisher took a step back in his second season winning only eight games. Why should we assume he’ll be able to suddenly take massive leap forward in year three?

I’m pretty sure the SEC West is, once again, going to come down to Alabama and LSU. And if Myles Brennan proves to be one of the better quarterbacks in the SEC, it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see the Tigers win their second division title in a row.
