LSU football among top contenders for 4-star offensive lineman

LSU football is among the top contenders for a four-star offensive lineman from Texas.
LSU football is among the top contenders for 2021 four-star offensive lineman Savion Byrd, according to Rivals recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman.
Spiegelman recently “ranked the contenders” for Byrd and he had LSU as the No. 4 most likely program to land the talented offensive lineman, behind SMU, Oklahoma and Texas.
Byrd, 6-foot-5/294 lbs from Duncanville, TX, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 4 player in the state of Texas and the No. 5 offensive tackle in the nation. He’s also rated as the No. 33 overall 2021 recruit in the nation.
Spiegelman noted that Byrd has yet to visit LSU, which is why the Tigers are down the list, despite Byrd’s strong relationship with head coach Ed Orgeron and offensive line coach James Cregg.
The assumption is that once the recruiting dead period is lifted (dependent on the status of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic), Byrd will take an official visit to Baton Rouge.
If LSU is able to get Byrd on campus, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Tigers vault to the top of his list.
Byrd, who can also play defensive tackle, recently told Rivals that he loves the family atmosphere at SMU.
Coach O constantly preaches family at LSU, which could make the Tigers a very attractive option for Byrd.
247Sports midland regions recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks describes Byrd as a player who “shows quickness at the snap and flashes impressive functional athleticism that allows for second-level work with relative ease. Brooks also says Byrd “possesses early-round NFL Draft potential with proper development”.
The Tigers currently have five players committed to their 2021 recruiting class. They don’t have any offensive linemen committed yet.
