All-Louisiana defensive team

Cornerback

Tre’Davious White ~ Shreveport, LA ~ Buffalo Bills (LSU)

Tre’Davious White is only 25, but he’s already one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL. The former LSU star reached his first Pro-Bowl in 2019 and he was the NFL’s co-leader in interceptions.

Cornerback

Derek Stingley Jr ~ Baton Rouge, LA ~ TBD (LSU)

Derek Stingley Jr is the youngest player on this list (he was a true freshman in 2019), but he’s already the best cornerback in college football. And he’d probably be a starter for an NFL team right now.

Safety

Tyrann Mathieu ~ New Orleans, LA ~ Kansas City Chiefs (LSU)

I mean, the honey badger obviously has to be on this team. He’s one of the most tenacious defenders in the NFL. His passion and energy are second to none.

Safety

Landon Collins ~ New Orleans, LA ~ Washington Redskins (Alabama)

I could’ve easily had Eric Reid in this spot, but it’s hard to pass on Landon Collins, who is only 26 and has already reached three Pro-Bowls.

Linebacker

Deion Jones ~ New Orleans, LA ~ Atlanta Falcons (LSU)

Deion Jones has had a quiet, but solid NFL career so far. He reached the Pro-Bowl in 2017 and led the Falcons with 138 total tackles.

Linebacker

Devin White ~ Springhill, LA ~ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (LSU)

Devin White is going to be a stud in the NFL. He was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and finished his rookie season with 91 tackles (in just 13 games).

Linebacker

Patrick Queen ~ Ventress, LA ~ TBD (LSU)

Patrick Queen will likely be a mid-first round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, which means it’s possible he will start in the NFL from day one.

Defensive End

Michael Bennett ~ Independence, LA ~ Free Agent (Texas A&M)

You always need some grizzled veterans on the team, right? Michael Bennett has been at it for a long time. He’s a three-time Pro-Bowler and he’d bring plenty of experience to the team.

Defensive Tackle

Damon Harrison ~ New Iberia, LA ~ Free Agent (William Penn)

Damon Harrison has always been a bit overlooked. But he’s had a solid football career and he can take up some space in the middle of the defensive line.

Defensive Tackle

Rashard Lawrence ~ Monroe, LA ~ TBD (LSU)

Rashard Lawrence will probably be a fourth or fifth round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, so it might be a bit much to ask him to be a starter from day one. But he has the talent to be a very good player in the NFL.

Defensive End

Jeffery Simmons ~ LaSalle Parish, LA ~ Tennessee Titans (Mississippi State)

Jeffery Simmons is better suited to be a defensive tackle or a defensive end in a 3-4 scheme, but there weren’t a lot of options here. Simmons is agile enough that he can get after the quarterback as a defensive end. He’s not going to be JJ Watt out there, but he can get the job done.
