LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron is one of the most interesting and unique head coaches in college football.

Not only does Coach O have a great story, that involves falling down and getting back up multiple times, he also approaches life in a way that I find incredibly inspiring.

The energy that Orgeron brings to LSU on a daily basis is amazing. Somehow, even at 58 years old, Coach O manages to be one of the most energetic figures in college football (which is part of why he recruits so well).

Some folks probably think Orgeron’s energetic persona is just for show. But it’s absolutely not.

Coach O is always at level 10.

Need some proof?

Tigers wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who is expected to be a first round pick in the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft, recently discussed several topics with GQ.

Unsurprisingly, GQ asked Jefferson what Coach O is like behind closed doors — specifically in the weight room.

Jefferson told GQ that Orgeron typically lifts weights with players.

“He’s in the trenches with us. If you look over at what he’s doing, he’s breathing hard and sweating. If your head coach can do it, you can do it”, said Jefferson.

If you take a look at college football sidelines, you’ll quickly realize that most coaches aren’t in the weight room with their players.

I mean, does it look like Mike Leach, Jeremy Pruitt, Brian Kelly or Sam Pittman have been hanging out in the weight room?

Not really.

Of course, Coach O simply showing up in the weight room isn’t directly responsible for the Tigers winning football games. But the fact that Orgeron is willing to “get in the trenches” with his players, absolutely helps develop trust between Coach O and his team.

Trust is necessary for a great football culture. It’s clear the Tigers have a great culture in Baton Rouge.

Ed Orgeron is special in a lot of ways. And that’s why LSU is now a threat to reach the College Football Playoff on a yearly basis.
