LSU football has interest in highly rated 2021 QB from west coast
By Zach Ragan
LSU football is exploring their options at quarterback in the 2021 recruiting class.
LSU football’s top quarterback target in the 2021 recruiting class is Caleb Williams, a five-star recruit from Washington DC.
The Tigers’ other top target appears to be four-star quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.
But those aren’t the only two quarterbacks that LSU is pursuing in the 2021 class.
Ed Orgeron and his staff know that nothing is guaranteed in recruiting, which is why they’re also working hard to build a relationship with 2021 four-star quarterback Miller Moss.
Moss, 6-foot-2/197 lbs from Mission Hills, CA (Bishop Alemany), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 6 player in the state of California and the No. 5 pro-style quarterback in the nation.
Rivals recruiting analyst Adam Gorney recently “ranked the contenders” for Moss and he has USC as the most likely team to land the talented quarterback. Gorney has LSU as the No. 4 most likely team to land Moss.
Gorney noted that Moss is building a strong relationship with Orgeron and is interested in the Tigers because of their high octane offense. But Moss has yet to visit Baton Rouge. LSU will need to get Moss on campus before the Tigers can be considered a legitimate threat in his recruitment.
Of course, maybe a visit would’ve happened this spring. Unfortunately, the ongoing shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic has prevented visits from happening.
For now, the shutdown is expected to last through May 31. It’s unclear if visits will be allowed to resume after that date.
Moss’ high school coach, Casey Clausen (a former Tennessee Vols quarterback), recently talked about the four-star quarterback’s talent with Rivals.
Clausen says Moss is one of the top kids he’s ever coached in regards to arm talent. Clausen also pointed out Moss’ toughness as one of his best attributes.
For now, I expect LSU to continue putting a higher priority on Williams and Nussmeier. But if things go south with either of those quarterbacks, they could quickly pivot to Moss and try to get the talented California native on board.
