LSU football in the mix for one of the nation’s top uncommitted 2021 players
By Zach Ragan
LSU football is one of the teams in the mix to land one of the nation’s top 2021 recruits.
2021 five-star offensive lineman Nolan Rucci revealed his top nine schools this week and LSU football made the cut.
Rucci, 6-foot-8/289 lbs from Lititz, PA, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 1 player in the state of Pennsylvania and the No. 3 offensive tackle in the nation. He’s also rated as the No. 13 overall 2021 recruit in the nation.
Alabama, Clemson, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Stanford and Wisconsin are the other programs in Rucci’s top nine.
For now, it appears that Penn State and Wisconsin are the programs to beat for the elite offensive lineman. 247Sports noted that Rucci’s parents attended Penn State, while his older bother is currently a tight end at Wisconsin.
Rucci has yet to visit Baton Rouge, but the fact the Tigers are still in his top nine means that LSU could still end up being a big factor for the Pennsylvania native.
If Rucci is able to visit LSU in the coming months — once the recruiting shutdown is lifted (recruiting is currently shutdown through May 31) — then the Tigers could certainly jump to the top of the list.
Landing Rucci would certainly be a tremendous get for LSU. He’s described by 247Sports director of scouting Barton Simmons as a player who “overwhelms defenders with size and force”. Simmons also says Rucci “has the size and athleticism combination that makes him one of the most talented offensive line prospects in the 2020 class”.
LSU is at the point where they’re always going to be a threat to land top players. Recruits know if they head to Baton Rouge that they stand a good chance of winning a national championship and reaching the NFL.
If the Tigers can build a solid relationship with Rucci in the coming months, they could certainly end up landing the dynamic offensive lineman.
