LSU Football: Will Ed Orgeron pursue USC QB JT Daniels?

LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron hasn’t been shy about adding graduate transfer quarterbacks in the past.

LSU football seemingly knows who their starting quarterback will be in 2020.

All signs point to redshirt junior Myles Brennan being the guy for the Tigers this upcoming season.

But will the news this week that USC quarterback JT Daniels entered the transfer portal alter those plans?

Daniels, after all, is a former five-star recruit that was rated as the No. 2 pro-style quarterback in the nation in the 2018 recruiting class. He started as a true freshman at USC, before getting injured in the Trojans’ first game of the year in 2019.

Coach O wasn’t shy about looking for a transfer quarterback in 2018, which ended up leading to Joe Burrow.

I’d say that worked out pretty well.

Because of the success of Burrow, there’s been speculation among college football reporters that LSU could be interested in Daniels. For now, it appears to just be speculation.

Rivals recruiting director Mike Farrell mentioned the Tigers earlier this week as a potential landing spot for Daniels.

However, based on the way Orgeron talked about Brennan this week on WMNL in Knoxville, I’d be shocked if LSU pursued Daniels.

Coach O sounds like he’s locked in on Brennan as the Tigers starting quarterback.

“The person we needed to see the most this spring was Myles, because now you’re going into the spotlight. We had to see what he could do. I feel like Myles is going to be a great quarterback”, said Orgeron to WMNL.

“We’re loaded again on offense. I think Miles is going to have a great year”, added Coach O.

If Orgeron wasn’t sure that Brennan was the guy, he wouldn’t be talking that way about the Mississippi native.

Coach O has never been shy about saying a player needs to step up. He also isn’t shy about discussing whether or not the program is looking for a grad transfer at a certain position (Orgeron said earlier this offseason that LSU was looking for a grad transfer linebacker, and they later added Jabril Cox as a grad transfer).

If you listen to Orgeron closely, he’ll tell you exactly what LSU is planning on doing.

And he’s basically telling us that the Tigers won’t be pursuing JT Daniels.

Next. We found something Joe Burrow can't do. dark

It’s the Myles Brennan show for the next two years. And Coach O is just fine with that.
