LSU football’s Joe Burrow is the most coveted player in the 2020 NFL Draft.
For weeks leading up to the NFL Draft, there were rumors that the Miami Dolphins desperately wanted to trade up in the 2020 NFL Draft so they could take LSU football’s Joe Burrow.
The rumors made plenty of sense. Miami badly needs a quarterback. And they have three first round picks this year, which means they have plenty of ammo to pull off a blockbuster trade.
On Thursday morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed that Miami tried multiple times over the last few weeks to work a deal with the Bengals.
But the talks didn’t go anywhere. Cincinnati, according to Schefter, gave the Dolphins a hard no.
Over the last couple of weeks, the Dolphins called the Bengals on more than one occasion to see if Cincinatti would be willing to trade the No. 1 overall pick. The Dolphins were told, in no uncertain terms, no. Cincinnati would not trade the pick and would stay put at No. 1.

Smart move by the Bengals.
I know NFL front offices love draft picks. They especially love first round draft picks. I have no idea what the Dolphins offered the Bengals, or if they even got to that point, but I’m sure there were at least three first round picks that would’ve been in the discussions.
That would probably be tempting for any NFL team. The Bengals could’ve picked the second or third best quarterback on the board and then landed two more impact players with three first round picks.
But if Burrow is the player that everyone thinks he’ll be — a transcendent franchise changing quarterback — then no amount of first round draft picks would be worth it.
If a team doesn’t have a quarterback, then they don’t have a chance at winning a championship.
And finding a good quarterback is the hardest thing in sports to do. Burrow is the closest to a sure thing that we’ve seen in a long time.
dark. Next. LSU has the best recruiting tool in the nation
Cincinnati hit the jackpot. There’s no need to get greedy now. They’ve already won.
