LSU football is the program to beat for an elite 2021 four-star safety.

LSU football’s 2021 recruiting class only has seven commits so far, but that could be changing soon.

The Tigers are viewed by Rivals recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman as the favorites to land 2021 four-star safety Kaine Williams, who is expected to commit before the start of his senior season.

Spiegelman noted that LSU wide receivers coach Mickey Joseph, who recruits the New Orleans areas for the Tigers, has a good relationship with Williams and his family. Spiegelman also noted that Williams was excited this offseason about the addition of Bo Pelini as LSU’s defensive coordinator.

Alabama and Texas A&M are the other two teams strongly in the mix to land Williams, though it’s clear that LSU is out in front.

Williams, 6-foot-2/205 lbs from Marrero, LA (John Ehret), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 6 player in the state of Louisiana and the No. 4 safety in the nation.

The Louisiana native is described by 247Sports midland region recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks as a safety who is “rangy at the back end and instinctive in coverage”. Brooks also says that Williams is a “willing participant against the run with encouraging pursuit ability and closing speed” and “generally delivers some pop upon arrival”.

For now, it appears that Williams will stick at safety at the next level. But considering his size and skillset, it’s possible he could move to linebacker.

In other words, he’d be a perfect fit in Pelini’s “attacking style” defense. Versatile defenders that can be used in a variety of ways are a dream come true for Pelini.

Next. LSU doesn't plan on 2019 being the peak of the program. dark

The Tigers don’t often miss on elite in-state players, so I’d be very surprised if Williams didn’t end up signing with LSU and Ed Orgeron.
