LSU Football: Patrick Queen compared to NFL legend
By Zach Ragan
Former LSU football linebacker Patrick Queen was recently compared to an NFL legend.
LSU football’s Patrick Queen was selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft (No. 28 overall) by the Baltimore Ravens.
Queen had a breakout season in 2019, compiling 95 tackles (including 12 tackles for loss), three sacks and an interception.
While those aren’t record breaking numbers, Queen showed Pro-Bowl caliber potential during his final season in Baton Rouge.
NFL Draft analyst Lance Zierlein said Queen’s “ability to diagnose and flow are both very rapid”. Zierlein also noted that Queen “plays fast, physical and with impressive field confidence….he operates with excellent body control and balance to gobble up runners as an open-field tackler”.
That’s some lofty praise from one of the top draft analysts around.
But it’s not the most impressive praise that Queen received after being selected by the Ravens.
Queen’s new teammates, quarterback Lamar Jackson and wide receiver Marquise Brown, compared the former LSU linebacker to NFL legend Ray Lewis, who played for Baltimore from 1996-2012.
Lewis, who was selected by the Ravens with the No. 26 overall pick in 1996, is one of the greatest linebackers of all time. He’s a 13 time Pro-Bowler, a former Super Bowl MVP and a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
When asked by Ravens.com how he felt about the comparison, Queen replied “I loved it. It’s a big standard to look up to, but hey, I’m ready for it.”
Baltimore has a long history of elite defenders. And Queen is poised to become the next great Ravens linebacker.
Will he be as great as Lewis?
That’s impossible to know right now. But it’s clear that Queen’s new teammates have a lot of faith in his ability to be an elite player in the NFL.
