LSU Football: 5-star recruit compares Bo Pelini’s recruiting to Dave Aranda’s
By Zach Ragan
LSU football’s decision to hire Bo Pelini may have been the biggest move of the offseason.
LSU football made the hire of the offseason before the 2019 season by bringing in Joe Brady to be the Tigers’ passing game coordinator.
A lot of analysts feel like the addition of Brady was one of the main reasons LSU’s offense was one of the greatest in college football history.
While there’s truly no way to know how much of the Tigers’ success Brady is responsible for, there’s no doubt that he had a big impact on LSU’s offense. Ed Orgeron’s decision to hire Brady showed how LSU is committed to constantly evolving and getting better.
This offseason, Coach O made another big hire by bringing in Bo Pelini to replace Dave Aranda as the Tigers’ defensive coordinator.
Aranda did a good job at LSU, but Pelini could take the Tigers’ defense to the next level. Pelini has always possessed one of the best defensive minds in football. If anyone can fully maximize the talent on the defensive side of the ball for LSU, it’s Pelini.
But that’s not the only thing that Pelini will bring to Baton Rouge.
Pelini will make LSU better in recruiting, too (even though the Tigers are already quite good in that area).
In fact, he’s already making an impact on the recruiting trail.
Five-star defensive tackle Maason Smith, one of LSU’s top 2021 recruiting targets, recently talked to Rivals about his recruitment. And he had some candid comments about Pelini and Aranda.
Smith told Rivals that he has a much better relationship with Pelini than he did with Aranda, saying “It’s definitely better than it was with coach Aranda because I had never really talked to coach Aranda on a personal level, but me and coach Pelini, well, he’s talked to my parents. I’ve met him in real life already. He’s a cool dude and more easier to talk to (than Aranda).”
This isn’t really a shocking revelation. Pelini has a much bigger personality than Aranda. And personality is an important part of recruiting.
At this point, it’s hard to imagine LSU getting much better than they already are. But Coach O and the Tigers are somehow finding a way.
I’d hate to be the other teams in the SEC West right now.
