LSU football hoping to keep 5-star defensive tackle away from Florida
By Zach Ragan
LSU football is one of the programs in the mix to land elite five-star defensive tackle Leonard Taylor.
If LSU football isn’t able to land a commitment from five-star defensive tackle Leonard Taylor, it likely means they’ll be playing against him for the next four years.
Rivals recruiting analyst Rob Cassidy recently “ranked the contenders” for Taylor and he has the Tigers are the second most likely team to land the talented defensive tackle.
The team most likely to land Taylor?
The Florida Gators…..you know, the SEC East program that LSU plays every year.
Cassidy noted that Florida has positioned themselves well to land a commitment from Taylor, saying “UF seems to have a large lead in this sweepstakes, so the sooner a commitment comes the better it will be for the Gators”.
As for LSU?
Cassidy said “there was a ton of mutual interest not long ago, and the defending national champs remain in the defensive tackle’s top five”. The Rivals recruiting analyst added “If Taylor is able to visit once the Covid-19 dead period ends, the spark could be rekindled”.
Taylor, 6-foot-4/255 lbs from Miami, FL, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 2 player in the state of Florida and the No. 1 defensive tackle in the nation.
247Sports national writer Charles Power describes Taylor as a player who is “incredibly disruptive as an interior pass rusher”. Power also noted that Taylor “looks like one of the top overall prospects nationally in the 2021 cycle and among the better defensive linemen to come out of South Florida in years”.
It’s easy to see why Taylor is such a highly coveted prospect.
The Gators might be clearly out in front for the five-star recruit, but if anyone can keep him from heading to Gainesville, it’s Ed Orgeron.
