Derek Stingley Jr will win the Bednarik Award

Derek Stingley Jr was the best cornerback in the nation last year as a true freshman, which means he’s going to get better in 2018 and 2019.

Stingley is good that I think he can become the first player to win the Bednarik award in back-to-back years (I’m assuming he’ll win it in 2021, too) since Penn State’s Paul Posluszny in 2005-06. He’d also be the first LSU player to win the award since Tyrann Mathieu in 2011.

If you think I’m giving Stingley too much praise, check out what ESPN wrote about him earlier this year.

"The gap between Stingley and the second cornerback on this list is massive. Stingley shattered PFF records across the board in his 2019 true freshman campaign, notably putting together the most WAA we have ever seen by a non-quarterback in a single season."

Stingley is a future top five pick in the NFL draft. LSU fans should feel incredibly fortunate that they get to watch this talented kid play in Baton Rouge for TWO more years.
