When LSU football should host College GameDay in 2020
By Zach Ragan
247Sports doesn’t expect LSU football to host College GameDay in 2020.
If 247Sports is correct, LSU football won’t be hosting ESPN’s College GameDay in 2020.
247Sports recently predicted all 14 GameDay locations (including championship weekend) and Baton Rouge was left off the list.
If the Tigers don’t get to host College GameDay in 2020, it will be the first time since 2017 that Baton Rouge wasn’t a host.
The last time LSU hosted College GameDay was on October 12, 2019, for the Tigers’ matchup against the Florida Gators.
In total, LSU was featured on College GameDay five times last season (including the SEC Championship game and the National Championship game).
It would certainly be odd for the Tigers to not host after being so heavily involved in 2019 (not only is LSU not predicted to host a matchup, the Tigers aren’t even involved in a single matchup that 247Sports predicted).
The week LSU football should be hosting in 2020
There are obviously several games in Baton Rouge that would be ideal for College GameDay.
Alabama vs LSU, for example, is always a hyped matchup. It’s hard to go wrong if you pick that game.
But a lot of what determines College GameDay’s location is a team’s record, how hot they’ve been in recent weeks, and what everyone is talking about on a national level.
That can obviously be hard to predict….especially in May/June.
For that reason, I think LSU should be hosting College GameDay for their week two matchup against Texas.
LSU and Texas are two of the most recognizable brands in college football. And this will be the Longhorns’ first trip to Baton Rouge since 1953.
This is going to be a HUGE event. And regardless of how LSU fares in 2020, in week two they’ll still have momentum from their national championship win against Clemson.
247Sports predicted that Ohio State at Oregon in week two will be College GameDay’s pick.
That’s definitely an intriguing matchup. And I’m looking forward to that game.
But for me, Texas at LSU is the marquee matchup that weekend. There won’t be a wilder campus in college football than in Baton Rouge on September 12.
Though to be fair, that’s probably true most weeks.
