LSU football commit Garrett Nussmeier is confident about Tigers’ 2021 recruiting class.

2021 four-star quarterback Garrett Nussmeier thinks LSU football is on its way to having an elite recruiting class.

Nussmeier, who committed to the Tigers in May, recently told 247Sports “I like our chances with a lot of guys in my class. I think we’re gonna pull off an elite class”.

LSU currently has the nation’s No.  8 rated class with only 12 players committed so far.

That means there’s plenty of room for some of the elite additions that Nussmeier is hoping the program adds.

LSU football targeting top talent

If the Tigers are going to secure an “elite” recruiting class, then they’re going to need to add a few more five-star players.

Ohio State currently sits at the top of the recruiting rankings with four five-star players committed. No other program currently has more than one five-star committed. The Buckeyes also lead the country with 11 four-star players committed (tied with Clemson, while LSU has nine).

There’s plenty of time, however, for LSU to rocket up the recruiting rankings.

And there’s a couple of specific players that could help the Tigers get there.

LSU is very much in the mix for five-star defensive end Korey Foreman and five-star defensive tackle Maason Smith.

The elite duo is hoping to play together at the next level. Foreman has strong interest in USC, as well as LSU.

Smith, on the other hand, is from Louisiana. So it goes without saying that Ed Orgeron and the Tigers are the favorites for the dominant defensive lineman (though that’s far from a given).

It’s certainly possible that Smith could tilt the duo toward LSU.

dark. Next. LSU and Clemson have a major similarity

Nussmeier talks a lot with his fellow 2021 recruits. And the fact he feels good about LSU landing an elite class should be a hint that the Tigers are about to make some major noise on the recruiting trail.
