John Emery — RB — Sophomore

The Tigers don’t have a clear replacement for running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

In fact, to start the season we will probably see a running back by committee approach, with Chris Curry likely leading the way.

But it’s former five-star recruit John Emery that I think will eventually take a stronghold on the job.

Emery, who was rated as the No. 13 overall recruit in the nation in the 2019 signing class, is the most talented running back on LSU’s roster. He’s electric with the ball in his hand. Emery can be the type of player who is a threat to score every time he touches the ball.

As a true freshman, Emery compiled 188 yards and four touchdowns on just 39 carries. He also caught six passes for 60 yards.

While I don’t expect Emery to be quite as versatile as Edwards-Helaire, I think he’ll offer that same sort of excitement when he’s in the backfield.

Talent always rises to the top and I think that’s what we’ll see happen with Emery in 2020.
